This Wednesday, November 2nd, the Ministry of Imagination will host an Ancestor Feast at Good Shepherd Church. This gathering, in the spirit of Samhain, Day of the Dead, and other autumnal traditions, is an opportunity to honor our ancestors (both biological and cultural) with food, celebration, and ceremony. It includes a potluck, a collaborative ancestor altar, and communal song and poetry. Bring a dish you associate with a deceased loved one. Also, please bring photographs or other mementos to place on our community ancestor altar. We welcome you to bring a poem, song, or memory to share after our meal. The beloved dead you celebrate this year may be your biological ancestors, loved ones you've lost, and/or exemplars who've illuminated your life.
We'll begin to gather at Good Shepherd Church from 5:45 to 6:15. At 6:15, we'll share our Ancestor Feast in the Good Shepherd Fellowship Hall. Folks who bring a dish in honor of an ancestor will have a chance to speak of their connection to the dish. At 7ish, we'll migrate to the Good Shepherd Chapel to share some songs celebrating ancestors and the circle of life. At 8:30 we'll conclude the gathering, though folks are welcome to stay for fellowship, either in the church or around a campfire. RSVP to Craig.
