This Sunday, Rev. Sarah Wood leads worship service Grace Church Red Hill.
Sarah Wood grew up in a small town on the Chesapeake Bay where she attended St. Margaret’s School on the Rappahannock River. After receiving her BA in English Literature and Education at The College of William & Mary, she moved to NYC and has felt akin to the city ever since. Sarah earned a master’s in divinity at Virginia Theological Seminary and was ordained in 2004. She served as Chaplain at Virginia’s Christchurch School, Atlanta’s Holy Innocents, Manhattan's Grace Church School in the East Village and now is the Lead Chaplain at Trinity School on the Upper West Side. Sarah sought justice as a minister on the streets with the Church of Common Ground, a spiritual community for the homeless in Atlanta, and later as Vicar at Church of the Advocate with Trinity Church in Asheville, North Carolina. While living amidst the majestic Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina, she also worked as overnight shift chaplain at Mission Hospital and pursued a BS in Nursing. Sarah completed the two-year certification in Spiritual Direction with an emphasis in the Jungian tradition at The Haden Institute in Flat Rock, North Carolina and was delighted to graduate the program with her mother, Deborah, also an Episcopal priest. Helping lead annual pilgrimages and growing relationship with the Oglala Lakota Sioux in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, remains priority in Sarah's ministry and life. Sarah dedicates her vocational days to theological instruction, liturgical design, community engagement, and spiritual formation. She values space for the beginner’s mind and heart and is ally in building beloved community.
