Theology from the Margins

Announcing a summer reading group Theology from the Margins. The group will hold its first meeting on Sunday, May 23 at 5:00 pm at Booker T. Washington Park in Charlottesville. Theology from the margins is co-led by Rebekah Latour, a UVa Ph.D. candidate in religious studies, and Meredith Kilburn, UVa Law School student.

Theology from the Margins will be a discussion group that will focus on alternative understandings of God, Jesus, sin, salvation, etc. The readings will center around theological questions relating to race, gender, sexuality, disability, poverty, body shame and diet culture, the environment, food ethics, etc.

The first meeting will be a meet and greet with light refreshments and an introduction to the group and overview of all the exciting things we have in store for this summer.

For the second meeting, the topic will be "Is God a 'He'?" and the group will be reading a short section from Elizabeth Johnson's book She Who Is.
